Meet Our Boys

Our Boys

Our boys are constantly in demand and are often sold as soon as they are weaned but we have a few boys who live in 2 paddocks, one for the mature studs and one for the younger males and the whethers. Our 3 stud males are offered for sale – e mail us for the latest details and price list. Darius is not for sale – he’s been with us for so long we could not bear to lose him. Midas, our youngster is also available.

Lucien

Lucien is a fabulous white stud male who we purchased from Fowberry in 2017 who owned him jointly with Herts Alpacas. He has a string of show wins detailed below and seems to know that he’s a bit special as he expects top treatment and complains if anyone is fed or haltered before he is. He doesn’t like his toe nails being cut but we found that if we feed him while we’re cutting the distraction stops him getting uppity!

Lunar

Lunar, or Sudell Apaloosa Lunar joined us in 2017 and has turned out be  quite a star. His 3rd fleece was 16 micron and he’s maintained that into his 4th fleece. He gave our Genie a lovely brown male, Leonardo, when we mated him for the first time last year. His colouring is exactly the same as Clara so we mated him with her last year as well as repeating the mating with Genie. The result is 2 gorgeous identikits of himself, one male and one female. Watch the web site for photos!

He is quite a docile and easy to handle character, although he stands up for himself with the other studs.

Gregorius

Gregorius is our superb grey stud who has always been rather precocious and has oodles of attitude. He and Lucien are still discussing who should be herd leader but they get on OK. He was born in 2013 and is the offspring of Garyeanna Treacle and the famous Alpaca Stud Nyetimber and he has certainly inherited many of his sire’s characteristics.

He has a string of excellent show results as detailed below.

Midas

Midas was born in 2019, but it’s hard to believe as he’s very well grown. We took him out from the other 2019 weanlings as he was throwing his weight around even then. A born stud we thought. Since then he has quietened down and the extra attention we have given him means he is now as easy to handle as our other studs and gets on very well with his paddock chum Darius. We have not put him in with the other full grown studs as they might bully him.

Darius

Darius is our oldest male, born in July 2010, the son of Alborada Claudia, our prize winning grey female and Bozedown The Chief. He had quite an interesting start as only 1 leg appeared. Thankfully Jo had attended several lectures on birthing alpacas which explained what could go wrong so she pushed him back into his Mum and armed with elbow length plastic gloves and some obstetric lubricant she set about looking for the other leg inside. The vet arrived to lend a hand and Darius was delivered without any further problems.

He did well in shows and we used him as a stud for several years but he developed a tooth abscess which was rather presistant and we also bred Gregorius who was even better quality so we have had Darius neutered and he acts as uncle to our weanlings
