Rushmere Alpacas

Neil and I went to visit Edward at Wessex Alpacas today as they are selling up and have some stud males for sale. We had a fascinating time looking at all the various males and their fleeces. They are all white and we're thinking of getting one to bring the quality of our fleeces up. We'd just mate them from time to time with the coloureds. It was interesting seeing the variation. Wessex had left a small patch of long fleece on each one for comparison. We think we may buy one, but it's a big decision.

We could have spent much longer looking at all of them and sadly had to cut short our examination of the females as we had a right royal engagement - a trip to Highgrove Garden which was brilliant. I keep thinking that HRH should adda few alpacas to his collection of rare breed farm animals but as he focuses on British breeds they wouldn't quite fit in!
