Rushmere Alpacas

The boys are definitely settling down. Horatio and kapalua came into the pen quite easily. Legolas came in until I went to walk past him and he spooked. Isadore approached but wouldn't go in. We'll just give them all time.

We treated the girls in the top paddock with Ruggle-it to keep insects and especially mange mites at bay. It also keeps the oldies' ears from getting too bald. We won't do the girls down below yet as we want them to get used to their new enclosure, plus we're halter training the two weanlings. They coped with wearing the halter quite easily - we'll just leave them to feed with the halters on and then take the next step - attaching leading reins.

Flower came up and sniffed some sheep nuts in my hand but would not eat. She also coped with my moving her over without spooking - a big improvement. Treacle kept well away, but is much calmer with us. No sign of any cria yet. First ones due July 18th (11 1/2 weeks) but they could appear earlier so we're on the watch first. Ariadne is due first but Claudia's only a couple of days later so if one produces, the other will probably follow on pretty quickly.

Liz e mailed re mating - we're going try receptol on Jade and also possibly some antibiotics on Pamella is she doesn't spit this time but I've got my fingers crossed. We'll know on Wednesday. Poor Comanche - he must be getting rather frustrated!
