Rushmere Alpacas

Today we moved the three 'matriarchs' (Cammilla, Pamella and Fabiola) from the field next door back to the 'home' paddock, just behind the house. This was for 2 reasons; firstly we had to wean their babies and we thought it was kinder to move the mums than the babies, secondly we needed to feed these three up as they were quite thin, whilst the others were just the right size. Loading had one hiccup as we got two of them in the trailer and then whilst I was enticing Pamella, the most jumpy of them, back to the trailer, the other two got out. Thankfully the lure of food still worked and we ended up without too much further work with all three int he trailer. Poor Circe was really upset, although Colombo took it much better than I thought and Calpurnia didn't seem to notice at all.

Back at home we unloaded the ladies and Fabiola seemed to be hunting all over the field - perhaps she was looking for Circe or for the whole herd as she is the boss. She was the most upset and there was a lot of humming.

I checked the youngsters later in the day and Circe still seemed rather upset and raced to see me when I came.
